Description
Protestant theologian John Calvin explores Paul's letters in this book translated from the 16th-century Latin original. Originally trained as a lawyer, Calvin broke from the Catholic Church in the early 1500s and joined the swelling Reformation. Calvin's view of Christianity was heavily influenced by the Augustinian tradition, which led to his development of the doctrine of predestination for which he is most famous. He was also a tireless orator and trainer of preachers. This book contains Calvin's commentaries on the epistles to Timothy, Titus and Philemon. These epistles are called "pastoral epistles" because they are addressed to individuals with pastoral oversight of churches and are concerned with issues of Christian doctrine and leadership.
